Useful Information On Isle Of Arran Vacations

The country of Scotland, in the UK, is a tremendous destination to have a vacation featuring a superb list of tourist attractions including some of the greatest museums and galleries in the UK,  perfect countryside for hikers, mountain climbers, ramblers, hill-walkers and other folk of that ilk as well as a massive collection of stately homes, historical buildings, castles and fortified houses.  In the article below I introduce the Isle of Arran and explain why the island is such a excellent place to take a vacation.

Arran is the 7th largest Scottish island and even though the island is often grouped in with the islands of the Hebrides it is actually situated in the Firth of Clyde. Because tourism is the main industry on Arran it will not surprise you to learn that there are a great many hotels on the Isle of Arran. Although the vast majority of folk arrive at the island in order to enjoy the awesome scenery the island also has a small collection of attractions including; Kildonan Castle, Arran Heritage Museum, Arran Transport Museum and Brodick Castle.

There are several population centres, the largest is Brodick, the site of the ferry terminal with sailings to Ardrossan on the North Ayrshire mainland. Lamlash, situated four miles to the south of Brodick, is the site where you can grab a boat to Holy Island.

Lochranza is main settlement in the northern half of the island and will find the ferry terminal with sailings to Claonaig in Argyll and Bute. It is vital that you know that the ferry is a summer only ferry. The village is set in a large, and very picturesque, bay with the ruined Lochranza Castle being the most popular attraction.

Blackwaterfoot is the most populous village on the west coast of the Isle of Arran. The settlement has a public house (bar), a small harbour and a garage (including a petrol (gas) station). Different villages to visit include; Kilmory (south coast), Corrie (north of Brodick), Whiting Bay (south of Brodick), Catacol (in the north) and last but not least Pirnmill where you will find the finest beach on the island.
